Emotional First Aid Skills in the Arrangement Conference
September 21, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
Join us on September 21, 2023, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT, for the next presenter in the ICCFA Webinar Series, Heather Welborn, licensed Funeral Director, certified Funeral Celebrant, and Grief Support Specialist.
Emotional First Aid, or EFA, are practical skills that any person can use to help another person through times of trauma, stress, and crisis to help produce better coping outcomes in the future. These skills can be used anytime, anywhere, by anyone. Heather will walk you through a basic understanding of EFA, why funeral professionals should be fluent in EFA, and teach you how to seamlessly incorporate EFA skills in your communication with your families. Attendees will leave the webinar with new tools to assist their families and other members of their firm.
Heather Welborn is a licensed Funeral Director, certified Funeral Celebrant, and Grief Support Specialist working at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, Idaho. She is also a Deathcare Researcher and Educator who considers her work as “bridging the gap between the funeral industry and the community.” Heather’s academic background is in Mortuary Science, Psychology, Thanatology, Conflict Management, College Teaching, and Communication. Her research and training focus on developing a deeper understanding of how we, as funeral professionals, can be better communicators with our families as well as creating ways to help our families go from crisis to grief, to mourning in a healthy and healing way. While her work and studies are her passion, there is still room in her heart to be a dedicated volunteer as an on-call crisis responder for the Trauma Intervention Program of Treasure Valley (TIP).
