On September 22, Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Tom Tillis (R-NC) introduced S. 4929, the Consensual Donation and Research Integrity Act. The bill serves as companion legislation to H.R. 4062 introduced by Representatives Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) in June 2021. The legislation seeks to regulate whole body donation to education or research by establishing a standard for registration, inspection, chain of custody, labeling and packing, and proper disposition through the Department of Health and Human Services. While the bill is unlikely to see any legislative action in the current session of Congress, ICCFA expects this bicameral and bipartisan legislation to return in the 118th session of Congress beginning in January.
