With one week’s notice, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced October 13 that it will hold an open meeting of the Commission on Thursday, October 20, 2022 where it will vote on whether to retain the Funeral Industry Practices Rule and issue an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking seeking comment on potential updates to modernize the rule, including improvements to the public accessibility of funeral home price information. The Commission will also vote on issuing a staff report that summarizes the results of their review of almost 200 funeral provider websites.

ICCFA has submitted a request to offer remarks at the meeting and is also preparing written comments. ICCFA members who also wish to submit materials may do so here.

In June 2020, ICCFA submitted comments to FTC in response to a Request for Information related to their decennial review of the Funeral Rule, which was due in 2019 and has been delayed until now.
