“You Can Always Talk to Possum at Life Forest” is a children’s book and companion workbook created by Life Forest Cemetery to help grieving children process loss through gentle storytelling and meaningful action. Inspired by the needs of two young boys attending their father’s burial, the project normalizes complex emotions and teaches children healthy ways to stay connected to loved ones who have died. Supported by professionals in behavioral health, mental health, and end-of-life care, the free workbook and accompanying community programs extend grief support beyond the graveside, reinforcing Life Forest’s commitment to compassionate, personalized care for families—especially children—navigating loss.

Sanctuary of the Sea: A Tribute of Life That Gives Life
Capillas Señoriales Casa de Homenajes – Mérida, Yucatán, México
Sanctuary of the Sea is an innovative memorial concept by Señoriales Corporación de Servicio that transforms cremated remains into ecological Memorial Pearls integrated into protected ocean reefs off the coast of Mexico. Guided by celebrants and supported by the Reef Ball Foundation, each tribute combines personalized land-based rituals with a sea submersion ceremony that honors memory while regenerating marine life. By turning farewell into an act of environmental renewal and love, MARE reimagines memorialization as a living legacy—one where remembrance does not mark an ending, but creates life that endures.

Vinculos de Amor (Remember Me)
El Campanario – Guatemala
Recognizing the unspoken grief of pregnancy and infant loss, El Campanario created “Vínculos de Amor,” a comprehensive support program that helps families navigate this tragedy through recognition, remembrance, memorialization, and support. They provide a Certificate of Loss to validate each baby’s existence, host remembrance events to honor the bond between parents and children and created a Butterfly Garden as a permanent memorial.
Their Thanathology center, the first in the region authorized by the Elisabeth Kübler-Ross Foundation, offers professional grief support to families in need. Presented at the 3rd Annual International Thanatology Congress, the program has already supported 165 families across Guatemala, El Salvador, Argentina, Mexico, and the U.S., proving that love and remembrance can transform loss into healing.

Tribute: Homenajes de Luz y Vida (Tributes of Life and Light)
Señoriale Corporación de Servicio – Guatemala
In 2024, Señoriales Corporación de Servicio expanded Homenajes de Luz y Vida into a three-day event, bringing together 40,000 attendees to honor life, memory, and tradition at Cementerio Los Parques. All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) focused on reflection and solemn tributes, Day of the Dead (Nov. 2) celebrated cultural fusion with traditional altars and activities, and Day of the Stars or Pets (Nov. 3) honored pets with parades and workshops. Built on four pillars—cultural appreciation, love-filled tributes, immersive experiences, and emotional connections—Caminos de Luz illuminated the legacy of those who have passed while guiding families in celebrating cherished traditions.

“Flying Beyond Goodbye” is a highly personalized tribute created by Señoriales Corporación de servicio to honor the life of Luis Roberto “Chowi” Gutiérrez Soria, a passionate Guatemalan hang gliding athlete. Centered on his love of flight, the memorial featured a full paragliding glider installed vertically above his visitation space, alongside a curated gallery of photographs, medals, personal belongings, and national symbols. Designed as an immersive experience, the tribute transformed farewell into pride, gratitude, and remembrance—demonstrating how meaningful personalization can elevate funeral service into a powerful celebration of identity, legacy, and love.

Lanterns of Love is a remembrance event created by Jefferson Memorial Cemetery & Funeral Home to honor pregnancy and infant loss during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Developed in partnership with the Still Remembered Project, the event invited families to create personalized memorial lanterns and illuminate a memorial pond with messages of love and remembrance. Designed to support families facing one of life’s most profound losses, Lanterns of Love provided a compassionate space for healing, connection, and community acknowledgment.

To embody this commitment, they have developed the “Memorial Experience” for families who choose them as their death care provider. Funeral directors attentively listen for unique details shared by families, capturing special stories and discussions that reflect the deceased’s character, personality, and values. These insights are then shared with a dedicated team member who researches the individual’s life through obituaries, social media, and public information to create a memorable moment that serves as a heartfelt gift from the Memorial team during the funeral service or celebration of life and conveys to the families that, “it will be okay.”

Smith Family Funeral Homes – North Little Rock, AR
The Willow Award, established by Smith Family Funeral Homes in Arkansas, recognizes the often-overlooked end-of-life caregivers who provide essential support during challenging times. Inspired by the heroism of a paramedic who saved a coworker’s life, the award aims to honor those who care for families as they navigate the complexities of grief and loss. End-of-life caregivers—including nurses, hospice workers, and volunteers—play a crucial role in ensuring a compassionate experience, and their contributions deserve acknowledgment. The Willow Award not only celebrates these caregivers with a unique glass award but also encourages families to share their heartfelt stories through nominations. The award has honored 15 deserving recipients, fostering a greater appreciation for the vital role these caregivers play in the healing process.

The Tending App enables families to preserve loved ones’ resting places from anywhere in the country through verified, shareable cemetery restoration. Using before-and-after photo documentation and coordinated local care, Tending restored the historic Collins family cemetery in Texas—uncovering hidden gravestones and preserving an important piece of post–Civil War history. The project transformed remote aftercare into a shared act of remembrance, demonstrating how technology can keep memorialization personal, transparent, and accessible.

The “Your Story, Your Legacy” feature of the Veterans Legacy Memorial (VLM) from Keeper Memorials provides Veterans with a dedicated space to share their own life stories, preserving their legacies for future generations. Developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and deathcare leaders, VLM commemorates nearly 10 million Veterans through online memorial pages where loved ones can share photos, tributes, and biographies. Now, eligible living Veterans can securely document their personal and military milestones, transforming VLM into an interactive tribute that connects communities, educates future generations, and ensures every Veteran’s story is honored.

Inspired by the loss of Sheba, the project honors pets not as fleeting moments, but as lives worthy of being remembered—fully, intentionally, and without interruption.

Max: A Dignified and Loving Conclusion to the Mission of an Extraordinary Being honors the life of Max, a founding member of the Equipo Guau Señoriales emotional support program. After years of comforting families through grief, Max’s farewell was intentionally designed to reflect the love, service, and humanity he embodied. Through a living tribute, a compassionate Pet Dignity service, and an ecological BioPet transformation that returned his body to the earth, Max’s story helped redefine pet end-of-life care—showing families that saying goodbye can be a conscious, loving act filled with peace, respect, and meaning.

Memorial Reefs International now offers Pet Reefs, an eco-friendly way to honor beloved companion animals. Their cremated remains are incorporated into a Memorial Reef, placed in dedicated undersea gardens in Florida or New Jersey. Designed to support marine life, these reefs feature textured surfaces for coral attachment and hollow centers for fish shelter. Built to last for centuries, Pet Reefs create a lasting tribute while helping to restore vital ocean ecosystems.

Pawprints on the Rainbow: A Tribute to Our Eternal Stars

The Day of the Stars brought pet lovers together on November 3rd to honor beloved pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but remain in their owners’ hearts. The event featured a Grief Workshop, a heartfelt tribute where attendees wrote messages on stars, a Pet Costume Parade, and the Altar of Stars, adorned with over 100 pet photos and visited by more than 15,000 people.
